Film

March 22, 2021

Wow, the feeling of watching an inspiring film. I just finished Tokyo Ride by Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine. It's everything I've ever wanted in a documentary film. The filmmakers follow around Ryue Nishizawa for a day. We visit his collaborator, Kazuyo Sejima's house and studio along the way. Most of it takes place in Ryue's car which breaks down several times during the day. Everything in the film is considered, from the editing to the titles. I love how the filmmakers turn Ryue's car into another character in the film. I love how the titles appear on the screen and how they have their own voice. This is exactly the kind of everyday documentation that I want to see in the form of webpages. Can webpages even create something this beautiful?

Death

January 8, 2021

I started watching a show about near-death experiences the other night. I found it pretty calming to hear these people talk about their experiences after dying. The afterlife that is described by the people in the show seems fascinating. It makes sense that the soul would continue to exist. Energy in the universe doesn't just disappear right? It continues on in some other form? I think I need to go a bit deeper into this topic if anyone has any book recommendations.

Soul

January 8, 2021

I watched Soul the other night. Felt like it was a return to what was so good about Pixar films to begin with. The line drawn animation and depictions of energy and other dimensions are beautiful.

Clouds

January 6, 2021

One thing I really enjoy about my apartment is how high up it is. I've nicknamed it the treehouse. Every day I watch the clouds pass by. I've been documenting some of the formations on my camcorder. Camcorder's are the ideal filmmaking device. I wish there was an equivalent for making websites. The closest I've found is VS Code and a rsync script.

Returning to clouds for a moment, I'd like to see a comparison between Rorschach inkblots and cloud formations.

Everyday sites

January 5, 2021

I've been thinking about this term a lot. I want to make "everyday sites", but what does that mean?

Maybe it means websites that...

Other terms for "everyday sites"...

Written to Hundreds of Days

Bandcamp

January 5, 2021

It takes me a long time to try something new. I'm definitely not an early adopter. This year I'm trying to force little changes on myself, however small. This week I decided I would only listen to music on Bandcamp. I really love the UI design of Bandcamp. I hope they don't redesign it. Some parts feel oddly slick but parts like the profiles still have that lo-fi feeling.

Websites should go live

January 4, 2021

The other day I put the text, " live" in the corner of my website. This is my way of saying my website is under construction. You might come back and things will be entirely different. The website could change before your eyes. In these online times, where are all the living sites?

Quietly blogging

January 4, 2021

It's a new year. I'm trying out this blogging thing again. I've given up on social media so maybe writing here will stick this time.

Two weeks ago I quit computering altogether but here I am again. My resolution is to find something better to do with my time. Making website's can be a back pocket activity. What else am I good at?

A few career switch ideas:

Resolutions

  1. Cultivate better relationships with friends. Say yes to potential new friends.
  2. Stop checking all counterproductive websites. Get out of the rut! I don't want to think a certain way. I'm ready to do better.
  3. Travel. More than anything I need this. I need outside stimulation that isn't screen based.

2021 dreams for the web

  1. Get out the rut
  2. Sites that target audiences beyond techies/creatives. Where are the "everyday sites?"
